DeRossett gets federal appointment

It appears former state Rep. Gene DeRossett won’t run for Congress in the 7th District this year.
On Wednesday, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns appointed DeRossett as State Director for USDA Rural Development in Michigan.
The Republican from Manchester was term-limited from the House in 2004 and poured nearly $450,000 of his own money into a failed bid for Congress inthe August '04 GOP primary.
DeRossett has refused to answer questions about whether he would run for Congress again.
He finished fifth in a six-man field with 11 percent of the vote. DeRossett got 542 of Lenawee County’s 12,759 votes in that race, which U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz won.
