Walberg raises more cash than Schwarz

Tim Walberg out fundraised U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz in the first three months of this year, besting the incumbent $179,361 to Schwarz’s $153,873.
But Walberg didn’t come close to outspending his opponent, according to latest Federal Elections Commission filings, which were due Saturday.
Schwarz, R-Battle Creek, nearly outspent Walberg by five times – $186,561 to the Tipton native’s $39,108.
Walberg’s campaign claims to have $304,199 in cash on hand, which trails just behind Schwarz’s $333,613.
Neither Republican candidate has loaned his own campaign any money yet, the data shows.
Detailed candidate expense information is always interesting.
Schwarz spent $2,618 for a full-page ad in The Daily Telegram in January.
Walberg has yet to spend a dime on newspaper advertising, according to his first quarter expense report.
Walberg paid a Grand Rapids company $1,200 for his website and Princeton, N.J. company $1,200 for the production of his latest radio ads attacking Schwarz’s “liberal” record.
In other campaign news...
The Republican Michigander, a conservative blogger from Howell, recently endorsed Walberg. But Howell is in Livingston County, not even part of the 7th District, which includes all of Lenawee, Hillsdale, Branch and Jackson counties and parts of Washtenaw, Calhoun and Eaton counties.
Walberg continues to use the same campaign tactics he did in 2004 by pounding away at a couple of statements Schwarz made to the Detroit Free Press during his ill-fated 2002 gubernatorial campaign.

For a real telling of money, you need to visit and count just how many of Walbergs contributions came from the district or the State of Michigan for that manner. Walberg is completely funded by a National right-wing fringe group and he cannot raise money locally. So far he's one issue and no substance. He will be owned by these people if elected.

Yeah, it's all there. But it will probably be more likely that the dems take Walberg out if he wins the primary. Even if he manages to squeak in for one term, there is no way he will survive another race.

Just don't let Walberg visit the Battle Creek VA Hospital, might get run down by a car driven by Schwarz (research BC Enquirer for story). Other dirt seems to be consistent he's a big blow! Check with his neighbors on his BIG dogs and his verbal attacks over them. Figures Engler would weigh in on someone he doesn't even know! No wonder Michigan in such trouble.

I have heard he is or was a good Doctor, I do give credit when credit is due.

Never did anything for BC. Just a way to work his ego up to US Congress. He knows something about Iraq, surprising????

Schwarz outspending Walberg? No surprise, look at the national debt. These Republicans outspend everyone. Hope we do get a Democrat. Remember Clinton left a surplus!

So says the man from Barry County... not only someone from outside Battle Creek, but someone not even in the Congressman's district.

Joe Schwarz still can't defend his record, so he is trying to distract the voters with nonissues like where his contributors live. The Club for Growth is a mainstream conservative organization working for limited government.

Also, the Club has not contributed to Walberg. Members of the Club have contributed to Walberg. All the Club does is provide information to its members about races across the country.

Joe Schwarz has taken plenty of out-of-state money, particularly during the 2004 election. He is trying to avoid the real issues.

"Never did anything for BC?"

What in the world are you talking about? Ask anyone in BC who Joe Schwarz is. There is a building at the community college which everyone calls the Joe. Look at the airport. Do some research and look at who helped get that runway extended. Look at that reserve air base. Look at the federal center. He battled those closures years ago, last year, and he will continue to work for BC. He works hard and has for years in city hall and in lansing and now in the capital. Once again, it makes absolutly no sense to say that he never did anything. John Engler has respect for him because he was effective. President Bush has respect for him because he is effective. To claim he does nothing is the height of absurdity.

Someone always outspends someone else in a race; it’s a mathematical certainty... And don’t forget that it’s the Democrats who are always advocating higher taxes and greater spending.

Yeah, I just checked out 95% of Walberg's cash is out-of state, yet their campaign is claiming in the papers that they are ONLY getting 70% from out of state. More twisting the truth?

And, look at the zip code search. Schwarz's top five zip codes are Battle Creek, Marshall, Ann Arbor, Coldwater and another BC zip. We all recognize those names, right?

Walberg's top five sources of funding are Northbrook, IL, New York City, Orland, FL, Pittsburg PA, and another NYC zip. I recognize those cities too, from vacations. As I recall, other than my tourist dollars, no one I met on my vacations actually cared about Michigan, our economy, our job situation, police protection in Michigan, schools in Michigan....

Democrats and spending? Spare me. No one has spent more than this Republican Congress!

Indeed. For Republicans to claim to be fiscally conservative or fiscally responsible these days is just plain ludicrous.
