Sex, Booze & Tecumseh High

Channel 7 WXYZ has been all over the Tecumseh High School sex scandal in the past week after a former track coach was sent to jail for drugging female students and letting his athletes sexually assault them in his hot tub.
The Detroit television station interviewed the parents of a former THS female student who alleges that when she was 16, former star athlete Cole Corey took her keys, fed her alcohol and ecstasy and allowed her to be raped in then-high school track coach Matthew Peterson.
Last Thursday, WXYZ's Anu Prakash broke a story detailing that Tecumseh Police Deputy Chief John Clark believes Peterson didn’t have just one, but four parties at his house on Shady Lane in 2003.
Corey is still slated to start as a junior on the Michigan State University football team. He pleaded guilty in February to possession of a controlled substance in exchange for testimony against Peterson.
"In our mind, we said, 'Let the legal process work itself out,' and that's until the sentencing stage," John Lewandowski, MSU sports information director, told The State News for a Feb. 20 story.
At one of the parties, former track athletes Anthony T. Sandoval and Jack G. DaSilva allegedly took turns assaulting a girl while Peterson and other students watched and laughed, the victim testified.
Sandoval pleaded guilty to felonious assault and aggravated assault, but first-and-second-degree sexual assault charges were dropped.
DaSilva, the son Urbano and Virginia DaSilva of Tecumseh, runs track at Birmingham-Southern College.
Five days after Lenawee Circuit Court Judge Timothy P. Pickard sentenced in his former THS coach to jail, DaSilva broke a school record in the 3000-meter event.

Sounds like some of the crap that Dexter went through a while ago with one of its teachers. It wasn't rape, but there was a lot of a teacher trading grades for sex and alcohol. Damned process took forever to get him out of the high school, even though the School Officer had been trying to build a case against him for years.

I agree with the last comment.. Tecumseh needs to make the community feel safe again and the only way to do that was to put everything on Matthew Peterson. Those kids were old enough to know what they were doing, we can condemn one person simply because he is suppose to be the adult.. What about the rest of the kids. Sure Cole Corey got 2-10 years but it is much bigger than the two of them.. It comes down to whoever was offered the best deals. Thats why Matthew Peterson is the fall guy. They have wanted him from the beginning.

How can anyone defend a 33 year old person in the trusted position of coach and who, instead of being a positive role model and mentor, violated that trust so blatantly? Even if he were not a coach, but just a neighbor or family friend, what he did was heinous and sick. The fact that he was a coach made this even more of a violation.

You don't know what he did or did not do. All you know is what the newspapers are reporting.

The newspaper reports are the direct result of almost three years of police work. Evidence doesn't lie, people do.
It seems that there is division on who is to blame: the 33-year-old coach who was battering his wife, or the horny high school boys that wanted to exert their jock image dominance.

I'm sorry to tell you, but the newspapers have included exaggerations and untruths.

Yes, we've all read the papers. And some of us have heard what what was testified to under oath in court. He's been charged, tried and convicted. It can't all be lies.

In response to the comment "those kids were over the age of 5 and knew right from wrong"

Yes, are responsible for their actions, even though they were minors. But they should have had a coach who fulfilled what his role should have been - to influence them by action and example to avoid drugs, alcohol and promiscuity. And internet fraud. And spousal abuse.

Let me tell you something in regard to all the comments I have read since my last comment.... I have been a beaten wife, and smacking your wife 3-4 times in the face, because she had an ongoing affair is NOT spousal abuse. #2 UNLESS you know Matt Peterson, don't talk, because I DO know him. He is not a creep, not a freak and YES I WILL defend him. Matt is the person that when I was sick in 8th grade, came home from school, and made me Chicken noodle soup. He is also the person that stuck me in his car and taught me how to drive a stick shift, took me to my first homecomming right after his football game because my loser boyfriend would not go, and Matt did not want me to miss out on that. This is also the same person that dropped everythnig to rush us to the hospital so we did not miss the birth of our sister. This is who Matt Peterson really is. My only ? to any of you that want to trash him is, Do you know anyone with a heart like that. So he screwed up a little, not nearly as much as you wish he did in what you read. So give it up.

I also know that creep. He was always trying to get me to join his "club", but I had enough sense to tell him to get a life. He is a sick twisted pervert and he deserves to spend the rest of his life in proson. Devient sesual conduct with minors is his game. I'm sure he had alterior motives when you were in 8th grade, you were(and still are) too ignorant to realize this.
