Walberg's response to Bush's State of the Union speech

Here's Congressman Tim Walberg's response to President Bush's State of the Union address tonight:

"I support the president's determination for victory and feel it is imperative we provide American men and women in combat with resources that will enable them to come home safe and victorious. The war on terrorism is the calling of our time, and we cannot shirk our obligation to protect our families and nation from the enemies of freedom." — Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton.

How much more offensive can Tim Walberg be? It is the height of arrogance for someone who evidently had "better things to do" than serve in the military to state "...we cannot shirk our obligation to protect our families and nation from the enemies of freedom." This man, who knows nothing about putting his life on the line for his country OR his own obligation to protect our families from enemies, could be responsible for helping send my child into a war zone? Or the children, spouses, or parents of other true Americans??? During the campaign Walberg advocated sending American troops into Lebanon. He knows nothing of foreign policy. Or sacrifice.

Not serving the military should not preclude someone from speaking on or supporting the military.

True, knows knows nothing about the military and doesn't appear to care either. As an obscure, minority fringe member, he's irrevelant in the entire discussion anyway.

There is only a handful of people in Congress today who have ever served or have family serving in the military. We threw out one of the most knowledgeable and experienced veterans in the last election. If you want someone with a keen understanding of the military who can make the right decisions, regardless of party pressure, work to get Joe Schwarz back in office.
